Mudds Winter
The Mudds sleeping bag line is designed for outdoor enthusiasts who are looking for close-to-nature sleep, but want to feel protected from uninvited visitors. The integrated MosquitoFlex system keeps insects away from the face area and ensures trouble-free sleep. The premium synthetic fibre filling offers a high level of warmth. In addition, the voluminous zip cover, the iso collar and the precisely adjustable hood protect against the cold. On unexpectedly cold nights, the foot end can be compressed using VolumeShift to reduce the space in which the air needs to be warmed up. If it gets too warm, the temperature of the foot area can be regulated using the separate Air/Zip ventilation system. The practical AntiSnag slider prevents fabric snagging in the zip.

What makes a winter sleeping bag

A winter sleeping bag keeps you warm at and below freezing. It needs more fill, a hood you can draw tight around your face and a well-covered zip. This category lists our sleeping bags with a comfort rating of 0 °C or lower – our 4-season sleeping bags.

Pyro 750 or Mudds Winter?

Pyro 750: down

The Pyro 750 has a -2 °C comfort and -8 °C limit rating at 1,020 g, compressing to 20 x 28 cm – for winter trips with a rucksack or pulk.

Mudds Winter: synthetic

The Mudds Winter has a 0 °C comfort and -5 °C limit rating at 1,580 g. With a draught collar and VolumeShift, and less sensitive to moisture – for winter car camping or several nights in a row.

No warmth without the right mat

Under your body the fill is compressed and barely insulates; your sleeping mat stops the heat loss downwards. In winter you need a mat with an R-value of 5 or more. On snow we recommend the Facila Comfort AX foam mat underneath and an air mat on top – around R-value 8.0 together. More under Insulated sleeping mats.

Staying warm on winter nights

Draw the hood in until only your mouth and nose are free. Sleep in dry clothes, not the ones you sweated in during the day. On the Mudds Winter, use VolumeShift to reduce the foot section so there is less air to warm. Air your sleeping bag in the morning to let the night's moisture escape.

4-season sleeping bag FAQs

What is a 4-season sleeping bag?

A sleeping bag that keeps you warm in frost in winter too. Ours are the Pyro 750 (comfort -2 °C) and the Mudds Winter (comfort 0 °C).

Which sleeping bag for -10 °C?

We have none with that comfort rating. The Pyro 750 has a -8 °C limit: at that temperature you can just about sleep curled up without feeling cold.

Down or synthetic in winter?

Down is lighter and packs smaller. Synthetic loses less warmth when damp – an advantage if you are out for several nights without a chance to dry your bag.

Which tent suits winter trips?

Dome and geodesic tents spread wind and snow load across several pole arches. See our dome & geodesic tents. No tent is completely freestanding; to get the best from it, always use pegs.
